Hello from me, Julie-elaine - once again, for your magazine « Quoi de neuf » especially for Anglophone visitors or inhabitants in our lovely Morvan-Auxois area. I’ll be giving you a couple of ideas of what to do, where to go, and how to join in some of the local events – Of course this weekend, it’s the June Solstice – Could it actually be Summer???!!!, and also ‘la fête de la musique’ so most towns, and even tiny villages usually put something on – and If your’e a musician don’t forget to take along your musical instrument and join in- Nothing better than music, to help you communicate!
The origins of this great French tradition date back to 1976, and were actually started by an American called Joel Cohen who worked for RADIO France at the time – the whole idea was then taken over after the 1981 elections by Jack Lang who was then the French Minister of Culture.
Bien-être – Well being – Well worth a visit
The lovely “1000 bouddas Boudist temple” in the ‘Chateau de Plaige’ in ” Boulaye” (which is South of Autun). I always find it a wonderfully peaceful place, and just listening to monks certainly helps to cleanse the spirit and ease the nerves!
A great bookshop there too.
You can visit the Temple avery day from 2h30 to 5 and in July and August in the mornings too from 10 to 12. The evening ritual is open to the public and starts at 7 o’oclock. They also hold some very interesting workshops there – so it’s worth checking that out. For further information 03 85 79 62 53
Night out/Music – a few tips for the ‘fête de la musique’
Music here in Saulieu:
At the Café Parisien on Saturday, and also at the local Cinema – you’ve got a film all about Gypsies called ‘Le temps des gitanes’ followed by a concert by the ‘Chausettes à clous’ (literally means socks with nails) so I’ll leave the surprise there about what kind of music that could be.. Useful French Sentence/French way of life
Has to be all about the weather! Which seams to be the main conversation topic at the moment!
J’en ai marre de la pluie (I’ve had enough of the rain)
J’en ai ras-le-bol des nuages (literally up to the brink) but means had enough too.
Ou est le soleil et le ciel bleu? (where is the sun and the blue skies ?)
What about all this propaganda we keep hearing such as ‘demain il va faire beau’ (tommorrow, the weather will be good!!!)
