Hello from me once again, A very Happy Easter to everyone!,
The radio’s story
Here at the radio station you may have guessed that RST has magically changed its name to EOLE. Now EOLE, is the Greek Mytho-logical God of Wind, so a Fresh breadth of air here all around! – and the ‘winds of change’ have taken the radio waves as far out as Chatillon, Sombernon, Montsouche, Lucenay l’Eveque, Avallon, Nitry, Chablis, Tonnerre, Montigny and Clamecy,
With of course the interesting towns of Semur en Auxois, Saulieu and Montbard all included in this great new sweep… There’s also a new bandwidth and that’s 107 FM
So a great new adventure has just started here at EOLE 106/107 FM
The first initial birth of the radio was apparently created in a barn (sounds a bit like the Christmas story doesn’t it?) by a group of (and I quote) “thoughtless enthusiastics” with hardly any previous radio or broadcasting experience – and that’s was way back in 1985.
Most of them are still here, and others joined the challenge later –They all contributed in making the radio what it is today. So a very self-made radio – and a nice story of making your dreams come true with a little help from your friends, and bags of inspiration…
EOLE is an independant radio – and produces its own programs 24hours a day, and seven days a week, which reflect its listeners population - with something for everyone, the older generation - and younger generations interested in local life, traditions and music.
French accordeon music at 7am every day, and also on Sunday mornings,
a great 70’s/80’s and 90’s spot called ‘oldies’ would you believe in the evenings… and lots of other spots such as:
- a local clairvoyant called Sylvie Paris,
- a special program where you can learn all about the local dialects and morvandiau.
- Cinema, local events – tourist spots – and publicity.
A couple of tips on what’s going on, and where to go this week
Well worth a visit
If you haven’t already been, is Chateuneuf-en-Auxois – which is an imposing medieval fortress set high up on a rock, one of the most beautiful villages in France, it was also a renowed stop off on the route of Saint Jacques de Compostelle…
Jumble sale
and spring-fair in Saulieu this week-end, at the indoor market,
Nights out/Culture – a coupe of ideas…
Le “Creux de Rayes » in Saint Martin de la Mer.
A great program this year, which starts off on Saturday night with « Jaune Chameau” an impressive and magical puppet show –
and Gaspar and Martinne are “opening the scene” this week and invite everyone to bring along a musical instrument, song, CD’s, pictures, photos or whatever.. to create the atmosphere and I quote “ “The human being feeds on popular culture, and it is greedy” The evening starts at 7pm, and entrance fee is 10 euros.

History and traditions
Something I found this week in “Mamie-Pétille” (http://mamie-petille.fr)
An association called “Mémoires Vivantes” in Quarre les Tombes – who courageously endeavour to keep local history alive, and to preserve natural heritage – the’ve already renovated several old buildings, and organise workshops on keeping up local crafts such as creating morvan traditional fences and cordes, or ancient knowledge on waterways.
They have also published two books of historical interest –
If you’d like to know more, - check out their website and that’s http://www.memoiresvivantes.org
(there’s a great article on there all about how our greatgrandmothers used to wash their clothes…)
The Interview ‘What are you doing here’
This is a new idea!
I thought it would be nice if a few of you brave people out there would come in to the radio station for a chat – telling us about your experience in France/ the ups/downs or any other information that you’d like to pass on to others.. Any English speaking French listeners are welcome too – to relate your experience in an English speaking country… Call me on 0380641074
In the Next program, on the 4th of April ‘John’ (from Ireland) will tell us all about his move over here and how he’s settling in.
Useful French Sentence/French way of life
For this week is of course ‘Joyeuse Pacques’ which means Happy Easter..
And a great tip on pronouncing those difficult French sounds from Stephen Clarke’s book – “Talk to the Snail”
The open ‘ou’ as in “bouche”(mouth) or “beaucoup” (a lot)
“Imagine you are a chimpanzee with an unpeeled banana between your lips. Hold your mouth in that position and say ‘OO’!!!”
Bye!
